Emap Acquires National Homebuilder Design Awards

Emap Construct have acquired the National HomeBuilder Design Awards from Custom Publishing. These awards, which enjoy the support of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) as entries can only be submitted by qualified architects, are the oldest established and most prestigious of their kind. They focus on the quality of architecture within UK residential housing and recognise the importance of design excellence.

The awards programme, with the backing of The Mail on Sunday, Standard Life Bank, the Architects’ Journal (AJ), smartnewhomes. com (the UK’s premier new homes website) and The Building Centre has achieved greater media coverage than any other housing awards scheme.

They have attracted an impressive portfolio of loyal sponsors who all actively promote the awards, and help to ensure that they continue to be a huge success.

Emap Construct has also acquired The RIBA Manser Medal and The Best of British Homes from Custom Publishing and has recruited its Managing Director, Mike Gazzard, to further develop them within the Emap Construction Network.

Graham Harman, Managing Director of Emap Construct commented:

“The assets acquired from Custom Publishing represent an excellent strategic fit with our existing portfolio of awards, events and publications, and with our involvement in the RIBA Stirling Prize. They will help us to champion design excellence in UK house building and will also serve as a catalyst for initiatives at Interbuild, our recently acquired construction exhibition. We are excited by the opportunities they present, and delighted to be given the honour of organising them in the future.”

Tony Chapman, Head of Awards at RIBA, said:

“We are delighted that the future of these awards and in particular the Manser Medal has been assured by this development. We look forward to working with our existing partners at Emap to build on the success of the Manser Medal, which will continue to be run as part of the RIBA Awards/Stirling Prize.”
