WAF logo plainWorld Architecture Festival is the world's largest, live, truly inclusive and interactive global architectural awards programme and Festival. It is a unique meeting point for architects, suppliers and clients, attracting hundreds of entries and visitors from all over the world.

WAF is also a plethora of seminars and keynotes, an exhibition of the world’s most exciting architectural projects entered into the WAF Awards and visitors will have the chance to watch architects from Japan to Jordan and Netherlands to Namibia present their projects to a panel of esteemed judges.

Underpinning the Festival are the WAF Awards, the biggest interactive industry awards scheme which sees small-scale projects by individual architects compete against international architectural practices, on a global stage. Shortlisted projects present their ideas live in front of a panel of acclaimed judges and attendees and the best in each category will win a sought-after WAF Award. On the final day of WAF, category winners compete in front of an esteemed Super Jury that will crown one project the overall World Building of the Year 2011.

Previous winners include ‘World Building of the Year 2008’ - Luigi Bocconi University, Milan, designed by Irish practice Grafton Architects; ‘World Building of the Year 2009’ - Mapungubwe Interpretation Centre in South Africa, designed by Peter Rich Architects of Johannesburg, ‘World Building of the Year 2010’ - MAXXI (National Museum of the 21st Century Arts) in Rome, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, and  ‘World Building of the Year 2011’ – Media TIC in Barcelona designed by Cloud 9. In 2011 WAF had 1400+ visitors coming from 452 companies and spanning over 65 countries.

Testimonials

"This event will blow your mind". Layton Reid, Founder at Desitecture  and Head of Interior Design Environment architectures/Architecture at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication

"At WAF you have serious discussions about architecture and start to see where we’re going to be in the future. It’s that dialogue face to face, with people that are doing amazing things that makes this one of the most important things that happens in architecture each year". Michael Heenan, Principal - Allen Jack + Cottier Architects

"The group of people you bought together were remarkable. I have seldom experienced such a high level participation in any event on architecture both from the speakers, jury, members and participants. The awards programme was one of the most exciting aspects of the Festival. I hope AR and Emap will go on organising these festivals yearly." Suha Ozkan Chairman - World Architecture Community
