Key commercial person required to deliver new business for prestigious research and strategy consultancy. We are looking for a team player who has the capability to make a genuine impact on the commercial performance of the business.

Our focus is on a sector which is developing rapidly, and this role is tasked with finding the commercial opportunities to deliver our ambitious growth targets. We are well set to achieve our ambitions because we are a dynamic team, with a high profile and our research on investors, intermediaries and providers is crucial to companies looking to make important strategic decisions. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for creating and converting new business opportunities for research subscription and reports.

The role is part of a tight-knit team where views and advice are freely exchanged. The BDM will report directly to the Head of Platforum and work closely with the Research Director. Collectively we know the sector well and have a wide range of senior contacts.

The BDM will have challenging revenue targets and KPIs relating to client management but will receive advice and support from the wider team.

Key Accountabilities: 

Business development across all areas of Platforum’s commercial activities to deliver quarterly revenue targets including:

Business development for the Platforum subscriptions business – managing existing subscribers, securing renewals and generating new business subscriptions.
Selling one-off reports by following up leads and proactively developing prospects.
Supporting business development for consultancy projects and bespoke research.
Sponsorship sales for Platforum events and conferences (currently a single annual conference).

The role requires:

Working with Marketing to pursue leads generated by campaigns and other activity.
Managing opportunities through the sales process using the CRM system (currently Salesforce) including processing orders, setting up subscriptions and delivery of other products to clients.
Weekly reporting of activities and progress.

The Business Development Manager must:

Ensure that the Company processes and policies in relation to revenue generation and representation in the Company accounts is accurate and appropriate in all circumstances, referring matters to the Finance Director, Financial Controller, Commercial Finance Manager and relevant CEO Direct Report whenever necessary.
Adhere to all relevant HMRC and all other regulatory accounting principles.
Adhere to Company policies including the Anti-Bribery and Corruption policy.
Carry out any other ad hoc duties as may be required from time to time.

Key results Areas:

Achievement of agreed sales targets for subscriptions, reports, consulting and event sponsorship.
Achievement of agreed renewal rates for existing subscriptions.
Successful partnership with marketing to deliver campaigns that achieve their objectives.
Achievement of new business call targets and sales opportunity creation.

Effective use of CRM system to record and track activities.

Skills & Competencies: 

Key attributes:

Well-presented and articulate with the ability to discuss sophisticated products with senior individuals
Ability to find prospects, create new business opportunities and close deals
Highly self-motivated and prepared to go above and beyond
Business development/sales experience in financial services – preferably retail investing
Strong academics to undergrad degree or higher
Experience with Salesforce, Elan or similar CRM system preferred

Evidence of success in building and managing relationships with high level stakeholders.
Evidence of success in prioritising and dealing with high level sensitive information and enquiries and taking appropriate action on a regular basis.

IT, Administrative and Organisational Skills:

Knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word and Excel.
Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and to demonstrate an effective and resourceful approach to addressing issues.

Judgement and Analysis:

Sound judgement with the ability to interpret, analyse and disseminate complex, sensitive information.
A strong understanding of business and organisational risk and the ability to analyse situations and apply judgement on decisions.
Awareness of the Company’s reputation, finance or legal position.

Communication skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present and explain management information clearly to a variety of audiences.
