Drapers is the British fashion industry’s bible – bringing the latest news, analyses, opinions and trends to fashion business leaders through our daily newsletters, website and weekly print magazine alongside a host of live events.
 

We are now looking for an experienced Deputy Editor to join our fast-paced team on a maternity cover contract.
 

Deputy Editor responsibilities

Strategy

Supporting the Editor, Managing Director and Commercial Director in devising content, content delivery, NPD and (with the commercial team) commercial strategy across all channels
Ensuring that agreed strategy is delivered as planned by the content team

Supporting and deputising for the Editor

Managing the daily content output online and in print and deputising for the Editor on any final editorial and commercial/ad-related decisions
Supporting with ideas for development of Drapers, including new content ideas, digital initiatives and development of awards, seminars, clubs etc
Attending as most senior Drapers staff member at agreed events
Managing both the direct line managed staff and the content team overall together with the Editor, feeding back any issues with staff morale, attitude etc
Talking to media when requested as Drapers spokesperson

Commissioning, writing, editing and proofing

Proofing and approving all print pages
Writing features as and when required
Ensure that desk heads work to a high and timely quality and that the digital first policy is adhered to throughout the team

Directing and managing content production across print and online

Ensuring that the content team operates efficiently across print and online
Proof reading and editing all content in print and online
Together with Production Editor and ads team, responsible for flatplanning each print edition
Running the weekly section heads meeting to discuss all content ideas and implementation (ensuring we cover a breadth of sectors, people and topics, and making sure our approach is timely, news-led and inspiring), and digital first
Outside regular meetings, always being reactive to news/new ideas/inspirations to improve our content and inspiring the team to get involved, digital first.
Monitoring editorial staff output to ensure it is productive for print and online
Ensuring all relevant industry events are attended by Drapers edit staff

Awards/conferences

Chairing sessions at conferences
Proofing and editing all marketing emails
Building wish lists
Putting together categories and criteria

Commercial

Liaising with all commercial teams
Devising new ideas and products for digital and event activity
Ensuring all editorial team members are alert to requirements of ad team and work in harmony with them

Drapers brand ambassador

Attending events, press days, conferences, setting up meetings with high-level Directors, appearing on television and radio, etc – essentially, building a profile within the industry via high-level contacts to further my knowledge and understanding of the fashion sector and, as a result, have the ability to lead the team and the content we produce.

Chair briefing breakfasts, seminars, awards, Inner Circle dinners etc

People management

Managing editorial team (directly and indirectly) of c14 ; dealing with individuals’ development needs, day to day requirements  
Managing team appraisals
