Key Accountabilities: 

Key Purpose

The Nursing Times editor will have an in-depth understanding of the market and will have (or build very quickly) key relationships within the sector.  The editor is the recognised market expert and the public face of the brand. The Editor will devise and drive the content strategy across all platforms, support and enable the commercial goals of the business and will have the leadership qualities to lead a world class team.

Key Accountabilities


Manage & coach the team on Nursing Times to ensure they produce work of the highest quality

  • Define a Nursing Times content strategy and develop editorial skills in line with the strategy
  • Ensure that content reflects the audience information needs in print, online and face to face at all times, and it is must-have content that audiences value and engage with
  • Be the face of the brand at the very highest level in all aspects and relevant areas of healthcare and nursing profession
  • Will own and lead the brand coverage. 


  • Work with marketing to drive subscription strategy across all reader/user groups, current and potential, including individual and corporate-wide subscriptions
  • Identify new reader/user groups and deliver products to meet their needs and/or understand how existing products can be improved or extended


  • Drive all commercial delivery on NT across all formats especially Marketing Solutions such as sponsor-initiated content, roundtables, long form and supplements
  • Support NT Awards team to drive entries, manage the most effective, efficient and integrity-driven judging process and help deliver the very best live events at its three awards
  • Support guide and develop NT recruitment events and other conferences to have relevant content via regular input to the production team


  • Manage the brand’s resources and budget efficiently and outline investment cases for growth where opportunities are spotted
  • First class journalistic skills
  • People management- demonstrated  ability to lead and develop a team
  • Budget management and budget setting
  • Commercial understanding and a proven willingness to work with a range of commercial and event teams to deliver the best possible outcomes for our commercial partners
  • Digital experience/knowledge
  • Media skills to drive brand coverage
  • Chairing and public speaking
  • Market knowledge of nursing/health  
Skills & Competencies: 
  • Knowledge of the content creation, editing and production process - print and online
  • Understanding of the laws on libel and ability to manage this to reduce risk for Nursing Times
  • People management and development
