We are currently looking for our Head of Advertising Operations to oversee ad trafficking operations across the group including: ensuring day to day ad trafficking operations run smoothly, promoting best practice, maximising revenue opportunities and providing comprehensive and timely reporting back to the business.

Key Accountabilities: 

Management of Ad Traffickers

  • Manage the Ad Traffickers throughout the business
  • Ensure the day to day business of trafficking campaigns is efficient and effective
  • Manage any escalations that may arise
  • Ensure cover is provided for absences (e.g. holidays, sickness etc) to ensure campaigns are not impacted

Ad Trafficking

  • Provide actual trafficking of ads as and when required (such as to provide cover or during busy periods)
  • Assist in troubleshooting any campaign issues and provide support to resolve (including working with external clients if requested)
  • Manage the inventory across all sites, including capacity planning
  • Ensure campaigns are optimised and deliver to their intended targets


  • Manage the DfP Platform including administering users, permissions, sites etc
  • Oversee the remaining migration from AdTech to Google Ad Manager (formally DfP)
  • Assist with the initial set-up and then ongoing maintenance for digital products on Elan (EMAP’s new CRM system)
  • Implement new products in Google Ad Manager and Elan as and when required


  • Elicit requirements for reports from key business stakeholders
  • Ensure reports are run and distributed to agreed schedules
  • Provide input into the budgeting and forecasting process
  • Provide analysis and insight to accompany regular reports

Best Practice

  • Meet regularly with Commercial Directors and MDs to ensure the service from the Ad Operations team is meeting their needs
  • Recommend best use of technology to improve our digital capability
  • Promote best practice around digital across the group
  • Maximise revenue potential through awareness of unsold inventory
  • Provide input to pricing models working closely with the Commercial Directors and divisional MDs
  • Make suggestions to improve processes and workflows across the group, standardising wherever possible

Key Results Areas

  • Day to day business of trafficking ads efficient, campaigns launched on time and hit targets, with few complaints from customers or colleagues
  • Colleagues in the Ad Trafficking team able to cover for each other without any impact on each area of the business.
  • Improved sales from digital inventory through education and communication
  • Elan digital set-up is up to date and appropriate for digital sales
  • Assist with the move to automated inventory querying and real-time booking via the CRM system
  • Key stakeholders have the information they need through the distribution of relevant and regular reports


  • Prior experience managing an Ad Trafficking team
  • Up to date knowledge of standards, industry codes and developments in the digital arena
  • Good understanding of how ads display across all formats
  • Deep understanding of the digital advertising world, including programmatic and video

IT, Administrative and Organisational Skills:

Extensive knowledge of Google Ad Manager
Reasonable knowledge of AdTech
Good knowledge of HTML and JavaScript, plus web design and imaging software
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and to demonstrate an effective and resourceful approach to addressing issues
Experienced change manager, adept at removing roadblocks and gaining buy-in

Judgement and Analysis:

Sound judgement with the ability to interpret, analyse and disseminate complex information
A strong understanding of business and organisational risk and the ability to analyse situations and apply judgement on decisions
Awareness of the Company’s reputation, finance or legal position
Good commercial awareness, with a willingness to find lower cost solutions to save money wherever appropriate

Communication skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present and explain sales information clearly to a variety of audiences.
