Architectural Review art director wins PPA award

Tom Carpenter, art director at the Architectural Review, has won the prestigious PPA Designer of the Year (business media) award.

The PPA (Professional Publishers Association) Awards are among the most competitive and highly prized in the business – and Emap has seen a strong showing in nominations this year across its architectural and fashion brands, making it onto an impressive six shortlists.

The Architectural Review was nominated for PPA Business Media Brand of the Year and Business Magazine of the Year, while the Architects’ Journal saw art director Ella Mackinnon shortlisted in the same business design category that Carpenter went on to win.

Richard Waite, news editor at the Architects’ Journal, was in the running for Writer of the Year (business media) alongside Drapers features writer Emily Sutherland.

Carpenter – who also won the British Society of Magazine Editors award for Art Director of the Year, Business, at the end of 2016 – said of his PPA win: ‘I’m absolutely delighted. It’s an honour to be recognised for the craft and care we put into the Architectural Review.’
