SUSTAINABILITY

emap Sustainability
At emap, we recognise that sustainability is not just a trend – it’s a responsibility and media has a critical role in raising awareness and driving change. Reducing our carbon footprint, optimising resources, and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship are steps we are taking in reducing our environmental footprint and promoting eco-friendly practices across our industries and communities we work and serve in and with our suppliers.
We are members of the PPA Sustainability Action Group, working together to set industry standards and the sharing of best practice.
Our audiences and staff care deeply about this topic, and we are committed to ensuring our content and working environment reflects their concerns and the world we live in. Below are just some of the steps we’ve taken so far…
Our Events

We are committed to our events becoming more sustainable. We will be closely evaluating each event and considering how we can improve in the following areas; energy; transport, water usage, recycling, economic and local environment. We are doing this through isla and TRACE.
We are proud to be part of isla and their action-driven network that is working towards accelerating the event industry to a sustainable future. Bringing together expertise from across the entire events sector to give its members confidence, knowledge, and resources needed to deliver sustainable events confidently and consistently.
We will be using TRACE by isla to measure our carbon footprint for our events that focus on sustainability. The TRACE platform works with the event organisers, suppliers and attendees to measure and minimise carbon at our event. TRACE is the definitive carbon measurement platform for sustainable events, the industry body driving events to a net zero future.

Our Magazines
Being one of the leading UK publishers in niche media, naturally, we produce a lot of magazines and in turn, a lot of paper. There are so many misconceptions around the use of print, paper and paper packaging and Two Sides are on a mission to change that.
With this in mind, we’ve joined their Love Paper campaign and agreed to run the Love Paper adverts in our Magazines, highlighting the benefits that can be achieved by using paper, from its environmental credentials to its ability to better mental wellbeing.
Our Tech
We are actively reducing our carbon footprint through major changes and continuous improvements. A key focus is moving away from on-premises servers, which have a significant environmental impact.
Cloud computing is a much greener alternative, offering higher efficiency, advanced cooling techniques, and the use of renewable energy. Providers like AWS and Azure are committed to reaching 100% renewable energy this year. By migrating to the cloud, we will dramatically cut our CO₂ emissions from both computing and storage.
Smaller initiatives also play a role. Our web team optimises AWS server usage, scaling down compute power during off-peak hours, leading to further emissions reductions.

Through these efforts, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact while maintaining efficiency.
As technology moves towards a more sustainable future, we will continue to find ways to improve our own processes and reduce our carbon footprint.
Our Offices
We are committed to making sustainable choices in our daily operations. Our weekly fruit baskets from Fruitful Office come in reusable wicker baskets with compostable packaging, and for every basket delivered, a fruit tree is planted in Malawi – supporting local communities with food, firewood, and economic opportunities. We also source our coffee beans from Pact Coffee, ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation by cutting out bulk commodity markets, which helps to promote sustainable farming practices. To reduce waste, we have switched to Planet compostable cups, which are fully biodegradable and made from plant-based materials.
Beyond our day-to-day choices, we continuously explore ways to minimise our environmental footprint. We are working with our maintenance partner to upgrade lighting with energy-efficient LED solutions and motion sensors to cut unnecessary energy use. Our recycling efforts have improved with clearer signage and separate waste streams for recycling, food waste, and general waste, in line with upcoming regulations. We have also implemented large-scale recycling initiatives, diverting significant waste from landfill and reducing CO₂ emissions. As we continue to review our cleaning and consumable products for more sustainable options, we remain dedicated to making responsible choices that benefit both our workplace and the planet.
Our Company
As a company, we are committed to sustainability through various initiatives. Last year, we hosted two Second Hand Drives, encouraging employees to donate pre-owned items, fostering a culture of reuse and reducing waste. Additionally, we have out Cycle to Work scheme, providing financial incentives for purchasing bicycles and making eco-friendly commuting more accessible. To further support sustainable travel, we offer Rail Season Ticket Loans, helping employees spread the cost of rail travel while reducing carbon emissions and promoting healthier lifestyles.
Looking ahead, we will be continuously evolving our sustainability initiatives powering our staff to make environmentally conscious choices both at work and in daily life.
